Spiritual Slaughter November 15, 2009

2010, the Year of Spiritual Slaughter by the Sword of the Spirit (Ezekiel 21:1-17; Rev. 18)

Sword is unsheathed for slaughter! The unsheathed Sword is the Sword of the Lord, which is the Word of God!!! It is being furbished and brandished, released and revealed to those who will execute with precision and accuracy to carry out the command of God against the opposition, sin, and mainly ALL flesh—church and the world.

At the time Ezekiel prophesied the sword of slaughter, God would literally use Babylon as a sword of judgment against His people by them being taken into captivity because of their sin. But now, in this present age, the Sword to be used is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph. 6:10-18). As for Babylon, it was an idolatrous and prideful nation, and would be destroyed (Jeremiah 51). This prophecy was fulfilled some 55 years later when Cyrus the Greate conquered Babylon in 539 B.C. And now, Babylon has a symbolic meaning representing a system of government that is contrary to God’s way of doing things. In Revelation 18, Babylon represents “godless” human culture.

Just as God orchestrated the events and intervened in natural occurrences during ancient times to bring about His purposes, He has not changed. God has assigned, appointed and anointed executioners in the Spirit to wield the Sword with authority and power to satisfy His fury against sin, evil and wickedness among all nations.

It’s time for the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ to arise, take her rightful position as the governing authority in the Earth realm as God’s official legislators and ambassadors of Christ in His Kingdom of light. In case you don’t realize it, we’re in a spiritual war—the kingdom of darkness against the Kingdom of light.

There are ruling powers, principalities and spiritual wickedness in high places of government with diabolical assignments to kill, steal and destroy. However, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Therefore, the fulfillment of Kingdom assignment is critical in this hour in order to equip God’s people to do Kingdom work and build up the body of Christ in the unity of our faith, knowledge of the Christ and spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Consequently, the systems of this world, which oppose the principles of the Kingdom of light must be exposed, and dealt with according to God’s way of doing things. (Ref. II Corinthians 10:3-6, The Message below).

“The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.”

No doubt there will probably be cute and catchy slogans for 2010. But this is just the opposite of cute and catchy. Get ready! In 2010, there will be a continuation of the falling spirit of Babylon, and the conjoining spirits that uphold it will be exposed (Revelation 18).

The spirit of Babylon is symbolic of a governmental system that’s built on pride, idolatry, and wickedness. It’s a system of operation that is often detrimental to the people that live under its rule and are dependent upon it for their livelihood. This spirit of Babylon is a system that oppresses its people while a core group of its governing leaders thrive—the wealthy gets wealthier, and the categorized classes of its people struggle and often lack the fringes and benefits to enhance their lives. In the dismantling and restructuring process, or the hidden agendas are exposed, the spiritual warfare increases. Consequently, it is manifested in the natural. Those in position and assigned by God to fulfill God’s purposes are met with greater opposition, and oftentime life-threatening plots and plans from those assigned by the enemy. (Those that have an ear to hear, hear what the Spirit is saying!) Our greatest weapons are the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God and prayer! Without these, your odds of becoming victimized increases. God, help us!

Side note: One of the most dominating influences in today’s Babylonian system of government is gambling, which induces a spirit of addiction. Wake up, people of God that are boarding casino buses every week, and buying lottery tickets weekly with bill paying money in hopes of winning the jackpot. It’s an overpowering part of the Babylonian system that promotes oppression through compulsion and results in a spirit of bondage. Do you not know that you’re supporting a system that is detrimental to you naturally, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s pretentious about improving your livelihood, but it actually robs you; you become addicted as it feeds your sin nature (flesh) so that you become dependent a worldly system rather than Kingdom principles. (this is another topic). I pray that the eyes of your understanding be opened in Yeshua’s name.

Be alert! Currently, the Babylonian system is being exposed and uprooted before our very eyes. We’re witnessing its fall— global economy crisis… financial systems failing—Wall Street, banking institutions, bankruptcy, ponzi schemes exposed, corporate giants falling, educational system, healthcare system… these systems have lined the pockets of executives, embezzlers, and extortionists, many who are major stakeholders with leading positions in the government . Why do you think that reforming the healthcare system was such a battle….? It meant that the system for gain at the expense of the people would be dismantled.
The Church of Jesus Christ cannot depend on this worldly system, but must live in obedience to God’s Word and Kingdom principles.

Within the Babylonian system are the following:

The spirit of Pharaoh – symbolic of a spirit of pride (a declaration of independence from God in attitude and action) in governing positions (leadership roles) that seeks to control and ‘lord” over the people in conjunction with the spirit of bondage. These spirits are prevalent both in the Church and in the world’s system of operation. Leadership in the Church or civil government is not for the purpose of controlling and manipulating the followers. Any leader that functions with an attitude of self-reliance, over confidence in his/her abilities rather than give God the credit is operating under the spirit of Pharaoh. Leaders lead to inspire, enable and empower others so that all can reach their maximum potential, use their God-given gifts, talents and abilities for purposeful living to the glory of God.

The spirit of arrogance- the spirit of arrogance is prevalent among God’s people where Scripture is used and applied to substantiate the personal belief that one deserves the blessing of God because we’re under Grace even when one is not living according to godly principles, or in obedience to the Word of God. This spirit is conjoined with the spirit of deception.

The spirit of pretense is another dominant spirit among church goers. Many church members and church goers attend the hundreds of conferences, go to church on a regular basis hear the Gospel preached, hear the Word taught in Bible study, but have no intention of applying the Word and obeying it.
The spirit of mockery is dominant in our society. It is manifested in blatant hatred and disdain for Christians. Mockers are adamant about their atheistic beliefs, and are provided platforms to convey their godless ideologies to the masses.

The destructive and deceptive influences of these dominating spirits should be the motivation for the Church of Jesus Christ to arise. Instead, too many of seduced by them and compromise.

Take note: If Babylon is failing and spiritual wickedness in heavenly realms and spheres are to be dismantled, there must be a replacement, restoration, and restructuring—the Church of Jesus Christ has to rise up to be the governing authority in the Earth realm. However, it can only be accomplished through the supernatural empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

This is why we’re witnessing an increase in apostles and prophets. But every apostle and prophet must remember Jesus Christ is the Chief Apostle and Cornerstone in order for the Body of believers to built up to take their rightful place and position of dominion and stewards of the mysteries of God’s grace.

Now what God is doing by His Spirit is not some exclusive club for members only who man thinks may look the part because they dress a certain way, and attach a title to their name, but it’s to announce to principalities and powers in the heavenly sphere that the purposes of God are realized and carried out in effect by Jesus Christ in whom we have faith.

Change your perspective, see adversity as an opportunity to glory—see the greatness of God’s plan and for which you’re being built up together in Christ so that your character will align with your assignment.

Are you ready to stand your position and having done all to stand? Are you ready to fight to the finish?
Are you positioned in the Kingdom to ensure victory over the kingdom of darkness?

“God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. —Ephesians 6:10-18

I’m already anticipating a blessed New Year because I’m committed to living out the principles of the Kingdom of God, as set forth in the Word of God—the Bible. I’m thankful that I was born for such a time as this to partner with God so that His purposes will prevail when I carry out my Kingdom mandate given by the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you?

Look up, people of God for your redemption is drawing nigh, and there will be great recompense of reward. Hallelujah! Amen.

Got Peace? Need Peace? Want Peace? August 12, 2009

The New Testament Greek Lexicon defines peace (eirene), pronounced: i-ray’nay, as a (1) state of national tranquility, exemption from the rage and havoc of war; (2) peace between individuals, i.e. harmony, concord; (3) security, safety, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous); (4) of the Messiah’s peace, the way that leads to peace (salvation); (5) of Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is; (6) the blessed state of devout and upright men after death.

Considering the state of society as a consequence of sin, peace is the greatest need. The definitions most appropriate are numbers four (4) and five (5). This kind of peace is a gift that only comes from Jesus Christ. With His peace you can have a harmonious experience that soothes the soul like the sounds of a symphony.

I don’t have to remind you of the current state of affairs—wars, disturbances, conflicts and disagreements among family and friends, violence and horrendous crimes in society that are unbelievable. But what I do want to remind you of is this: Without the peace of God life becomes hopelessly unbearable trying to cope with the daily challenges. Peace of mind and heart gives the assurance that good will ultimately win over evil even in the midst of confusion and chaotic circumstances.

 

Although we give the “peace” signs, we make “peace” talks; countries sign “peace” treaties, and many say with their lips, “Peace, Peace… (Shalom); but in reality, our society and the nations of the world are suffering from the lack thereof.

I wrote an article in 2002 entitled, The Price of Peace. At the time, we only faced the threat of war. But today two wars are being fought with a dimming ray of hope for a speedy end.

Believing God’s word and knowing He is all-powerful (Psalm 46:9-10), we still hope and even pray for peace (freedom from war). Nevertheless, the devastating effects of war are felt by families and friends every day. Lives are still being lost, sacrifices are still being made. Children are still without their mothers and fathers. Parents are still looking forward to the day their sons and daughters come home from war never to return.

 

The lack of peace in the lives of so many is evidenced all around us. We see the need for peace in our neighborhoods, and communities. We yearn for it in our homes. We need it taught in our schools, and yes, we need even in our places of worship. For those who are yet praying, believing, and hoping, and waiting don’t stop; don’t give up. You recognize the need for something greater—a spiritual calm in your spirit; a mental calm that cannot be explained, only experienced through serenity of His Presence and the power of prayer. (¹Oh peace we often forfeit; O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer).

 

Philippians 4:5-7, Paul says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

 

Today, more than ever before we must hold fast to this the truth, and experience the manifestation of this promise— His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

 

I like this translation (it amplifies the Hebrew and Greek), “And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

 

The gift of peace, that only comes through a relationship with Jesus the Christ, will be your defense that safeguards and protects your heart and mind when you’re consistent in your communication with Christ, and enthusiastic about expressing your gratitude for what He has done. The protection of your heart and mind is critical because the mind is a battlefield. It is where the greatest war is fought. Consequently, if there’s no peace of mind, you are defenseless against the mental assaults and diabolical assignments of the enemy to penetrate your spirit and take you out with ambush of negative thoughts. The fiery darts of the enemy are thoughts of doubt, defeat, and disillusionment, which will sabotage your faith, and hope in Christ.

 

Sure, we all can agree that “What the world needs now is love, sweet love…” But the greatest need at this juncture is PEACE with God, which comes by accepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord of your life. Is there anyone that can honestly say we don’t need peace by any definition of the word?

If we truly have the peace of God in our hearts, and peace in our minds that comes through relationship with Jesus Christ, it would be a gigantic step in embracing the “true love” concept. Why? Because God is love!”

 

Need Peace? Want Peace?

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, or have not received Him as Lord of your life then you don’t have peace with God the Father (Romans 5:1).

Today is a good day for a new beginning… to start your new life in Christ. Start by reading the Gospels, specifically John 3, Romans 3; 10:9-10, meditate, repent, pray in faith, (believe and earnestly ask the Lord Jesus Christ to reveal Himself to you). Continue reading the Bible and talking to God on a daily basis. Ask Him to lead you to a place of worship if you’re not part of a local assembly. Ask Him lead and guide you into all truths by the power of the Holy Spirit (Read John, chapters 14-16).

Eclipse of God’s Glory July 23, 2009

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
      The skies display his craftsmanship.
 Day after day they continue to speak;
      night after night they make him known.
 They speak without a sound or word;
      their voice is never heard.
 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
      and their words to all the world.” -Psalm 19:1-4

 

July 22, 2009 the longest solar eclipse of 21^st century pitched a swath of Asia from India to China into near darkness. Millions gathered to watch the phenomenon.

God was speaking through the majesty of His glory as the psalmist penned in Psalm 19:1-4. But how many recognized the truth? The sun, the moon, the skies were His voice speaking loudly without a sound or word, but the truth was not heard.

 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth and their words to the entire world.

But how do I know the truth was not heard?  Because of the reported responses and reactions:

 

 

At a Buddhist temple in the Thai capital Bangkok, dozens of monks led prayers at a Buddhist temple to ward off evil.

“The eclipse is bad omen for the country,” said Pinyo Pongjaroen, a prominent astrologer. “We are praying to boost the fortune of the country.”

In Myanmar, Buddhists went to Yangon’s famed Shwedagon pagoda, where monks in scarlet robes viewed the eclipse through telescopes.

Bringing flowers and fruit to ward off misfortune, some of the faithful warned friends and family not to sleep through the eclipse for fear of bringing bad luck.

“We all got up early this morning and prayed at home because our abbot told us that the solar eclipse is a bad omen,” said 43-year-old teacher Aye Aye Thein.

  Superstition has always haunted the moment when Earth, moon and sun are perfectly aligned. The daytime extinction of the sun, the source of all life, is associated with war, famine, flood and the death or birth of rulers.

The ancient Chinese blamed a sun-eating dragon. In Hindu mythology, the two demons Rahu and Ketu are said to “swallow” the sun during eclipses, snuffing out its light and causing food to become inedible and water undrinkable.

Some Indian astrologers had issued predictions laden with gloom and foreboding, and a gynecologist at a Delhi hospital said many expectant mothers scheduled for July 22 caesarian deliveries insisted on changing the date.

Truth is the heavens are declaring the glory of God, but according to Romans 1:18-23, wicked people are suppressers of the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.  Paul writes, “Ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
 

He continues by saying, “Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshipping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.”

The responses and reactions to the eclipse give evidence to people’s dark and confused state of mind.  Moreover, it is evidence of the need to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to people near and far, so that they will believe in God’s Son Jesus Christ, receive him into their heart, and live in victory and expectation of his return.

 

It’s easy to allude to people’s right to choose or their freedom of religion, but it’s heartbreaking when you know that a person’s right to choose and freedom of religion can determine their eternal destiny.

 

As Christians, we must declare as Paul,” …I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—”

The Power Struggle June 13, 2009

 

Remember Geraldine, a character played by Flip Wilson? When Geraldine did something that was wrong or mischievous, which was 99.5% of the time, her famous line was, “The devil made me do it!” Basically, it was an excuse to justify what she knew was the wrong thing to do.

That same line has been used ever since it was introduced. Only now, I think most people really believe it, especially Christians. Christians are blaming the devil a lot these days. When I really focused and meditated on Romans 7:18-25, I realized that to the Christian the devil is just a “sidekick”; he tempts, suggests, and will manipulate through deception if we don’t stay alert. He does have power to control those who’ve totally surrendered their body, mind and soul to him to possess his spirit (aka demon possessed). This is another topic for another time. Refer to Luke 4:31-35, Mary Magdalene, ref. Luke 8:2, Mark 9:17.

The reality is it’s in our sin nature to do what’s wrong. At some point if Christians keep intentionally disobeying God by listening and doing what the devil says they fall victim to him. Since our sin nature is drawn to doing what’s wrong, we can be easy prey for the roaring lion (Devil) to devour (I Peter 5:8).

Think back how it all started in the Garden of Eden. The serpent didn’t force Eve to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden; neither did Eve force Adam. Although the shrewd serpent instigated and deceived Eve, he did not make her eat. He perverted the truth and enticed her. Yet, she chose to disobey God’s command; Adam chose to disobey also. Consequently, the entire human race was infected by a pandemic known as sin. The decision of Adam and Eve passed down to us all a dis-ease called “sin”. We have what is called a sinful nature that manifested when man did what God specifically said don’t do (Gen. 2:15-17). Their disobedience changed the course of life and everything was affected by it. They forfeited their own innocence, their children’s, and the entire human race because of their rebellion against God’s instruction (Rom. 5:12-14, I Cor. 15:21-22, 45-49). In essence, within us all is the greater desire to do what is wrong instead of what is right even though we may know it’s wrong. Consequently, we’re in a power struggle with our sin nature.

This is what Paul was explaining to the Roman Christians as he used himself for an example. Like all of us it’s easier to do what is wrong than it is to do what is right; thus the power struggle with sin—between right and wrong, obedience and disobedience. Think about! Lying is manifested early with toddlers. Parents do not have to teach them. It’s in their nature (Psalm 51:5).

(Here’s an example: Have you ever did something you know was wrong and after you did you ask, “Why did I do that?” The answer is in Romans 7:15-17.

¹⁵ I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. ¹⁶ But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. ¹⁷ So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

Knowing the truth about my sin nature and admitting it aids in disarming the enemy from using my weaknesses against me. Paul continues by saying, ¹⁸ And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.^[d]
I want to do what is right, but I can’t. ¹⁹ I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. ²⁰ But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.

One of the greatest benefits of studying the Word of God is discovery. It opens up a whole new way of thinking, processing and living life according to Kingdom principles. More importantly, the discovery is about “self”. Too often we like to mirror the Word against the faults and weaknesses of others. The truth? I need help before I can truthfully help you. I have to deal with my own issues first or else I’ll be like a contagious virus passing it on to others in the spirit realm causing a sin epidemic. Okay. Let me say it! The Church is in trouble now because of a sin pandemic—sin nature is controlling from the pulpit to the pew!

Back to discovery… Listen to what Paul says,  ²¹ I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. ²² I love God’s law with all my heart. ²³ But there is another power^[e] within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.
I can never underestimate my propensity to commit sin. Yes. I love the Lord and His Word with all my heart. But the truth is because I love the Lord with all my heart, the power struggle is even greater. The power struggle is with my mind; my sin nature wants to enslave me! Therefore, daily I must fortify my mind using the arsenal of weapons that God has provided—the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, faith, prayer, (praying in the Spirit), fasting, the Blood of Jesus, praise, worship. Yeah, admit it, you have thoughts that are not right and you know it, but do you act on them? Sometimes! And do you feel justified? Sometimes. Come’ on tell the truth! Admit it like Paul did, ²⁴ Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?

Like Apostle Paul, I’m so thankful for what Jesus Christ did. ²⁵ Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. He did not have a “sinful nature” because Mary was a virgin and had not had sexual intercourse with another human man (Joseph), which would have passed on the human sin nature. The Holy Ghost impregnated. Sure, it’s a mystery! But if you really meditate on it and ask God for revelation you can believe it. Refer Isaiah 7:14, Luke 1:26-38.

The answer for the world is Jesus Christ! However, the question is do you want to live a life dominated by your sinful nature? It’s a choice (man has a free will to choose just like Adam and Eve).

Praise God! I choose to live confident in God’s power to free me from the controlling power of my sin nature. I belong to Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1) and because I belong to Him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed me from the power of sin that leads to death. Simple because I choose the way of life through faith in Christ, I am empowered by the Holy Spirit who controls my mind. And by letting the Spirit of God control my mind it leads to life and peace (Romans 8:6). Does this mean I never do anything wrong? Of course not! But as Paul explains in the next chapter (8:1), I’m not condemned because I’m in Christ, and my heart’s desire is to please God. Therefore, when I do what’s wrong, I repent and for forgiveness and move on. I don’t keep doing what’s wrong, and using an excuse to justify my sin.

How do you know if your sinful nature is controlling? Ask yourself honestly, “What do I think about most of the time, doing what is right or wrong?” ⁵ Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit (Romans 8:5).

To tell you the truth, the power struggle will always be within until your earthly life ends. The power struggle is manifested in every walk of life. It does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, nationality, political views, sex, age, or any other aspect of life. It’s manifested in the family, the Church, workplace, government, on every continent in every country and island. Wherever there are human beings there is a power struggle within that is manifested in either right and wrong attitudes and actions. The dominating power will be displayed whether right or wrong, good or evil.

And people are asking questions like, “Why is the world in such mess, what is the world coming to?” Now you know—it’s a power struggle—man’s sinful nature is determined to dominate. But the good news is with Jesus Christ you’re destined to win by the power of the Holy Spirit of Christ if you so choose God’s Way, Truth and Life.

Will you keep using Geraldine’s excuse, “the devil made me do it, or will you man up and say my sinful nature is in control, and I want to change? I want the Spirit of God to control my mind. I need peace or otherwise I’m fighting a losing the battle.

What is your choice?

 

Pulpit Politics or Religious Profiling September 30, 2008

With all that’s going on in America, we are in a desperate situation and should be shouting in unity for God to shed His grace upon our nation. 

 

Instead, the voice of division is screaming louder and louder as many mock and ridicule the existence of God, not to mention our need for His grace and mercy in these stressful times, and the greater difficulties we will face in the days ahead.

 

The most appalling is the voice of division coming from the religious community; specifically the Christians—evangelicals, conservatives, fundamentalists, liberals, and every other label they can come up with to promote their agendas, religious prejudices, and racial biases, all in the name of God, and the bible.

 

You would think that if we all believe in one faith, one baptism, and one Lord, based upon the gospel of Jesus Christ, there wouldn’t be such divisiveness being publicized about one issue, or one’s disagreement over a candidate’s decision not to impose his personal values and beliefs on individuals.  Did they forget that God Himself gives people free will to choose?  Freedom of choice is a privilege given by the Creator.  Man makes his own decisions—right or wrong. 

 

My question is this:  Why in this year’s presidential election did these pastors decide to break the IRS rule to endorse a candidate, and publicly tell their parishioners who to vote for as the candidate of choice?  This law has been in effect over 50 years, but this year is the year of radical defiance. What is it about this picture?  Take another look…  

I know, I know!  The “R” word always comes up!  So here goes.  Could it be that because the presidential candidacy is between a black man and a white man that this is now a cause to fight for “freedom of speech from the pulpit” although this IRS law prohibiting political endorsements by churches, and nonprofit/charities, or lose the tax-exempt status has been in place for fifty plus years?

 

 

 

 

 

McCain and Obama aren’t the first candidates to disagree on social issues.  They both confess they are Christian by believing in and accepting Jesus Christ as Savior.  So why is it so critical now to defy a government law to make a point of telling people who to vote for?  Could it be that these pastors would rather defy a government law, which the bible says is rebelling against God, and risk loss because they want to publicly and explicitly say don’t vote for a black man to be president of the United States? And God help any black preacher that’s been distracted by this  political game of religious intimidation.

 

Ummm… What do you think?   I think this presidential election is exposing the hypocrisy and hatred that’s been hidden deeply in the heart of people who call themselves devout evangelicals and conservatives.  What happen to just being Christian anyway? 

 

The more I listen and observe to the evangelicals and conservatives I’m convinced these are only labels to identify their subtle prejudices, and double standards.  It seems they only teach against abortion and homosexuality.  What a farce!  Could it be a disguise to cover up sins of the heart?  Jesus dealt with the “whole” man and all the issues of life.  He didn’t teach hate but love, he didn’t promote division, but prayed that we be One as He and the Father are One.  The one thing he did hate was hypocrisy—talking the talk but not walking the walk (Matthew 23:1-33).  This is the kind of hypocrisy that will be exposed (Luke 12:1-20), and in the end God’s purposes will prevail. 

 

These kinds of pulpit politics from pastors under the pretense of religion and Christianity are really a slap in the face to their parishioners.  It really says that their congregants are incapable of making their own decisions.  I hope they’re intelligent enough to think and decide for themselves.

 

Truth is, if prejudice and hatred are motives for this need to defy the federal law they will suffer the consequences justly.  As spiritual leaders and pastors, instead of promoting division among Christians, they should be encouraging people to vote God-conscious in accordance with the Bible that they supposedly take “literally”— Proverbs 3:5-6,   “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Besides, it’s your right to vote for whomever you want.  But be truthful about it.  Just say you voting for John McCain because he’s white.  Don’t try to “spiritualize” it.  The real issue is not about whom you’re voting for.  It’s about the truth.  If you say you’re teaching the bible, the bible is Truth. 

 

I advocate for truth.  Guess what?  The truth is, I’m voting for Barack Obama; he’s Christian and he’s black.  There.  I said it!  Hey!  But I made that decision myself.  Besides, I’ve been voting for white men for the past thirty (30) years.  I didn’t have a choice, other than to not exercise my voting rights.  Couldn’t do that; too many sacrificed their life for me not to exercise the rights finally given to me to vote.  So I voted for white men. 

Another truth?  If Barack were a republican, I’d still vote for him.  So I’ll exercise my freedom of choice.  When does “freedom” of speech override “freedom” of choice? Why can’t these pastors give their congregation the dignity of personal decision?   Why can’t these evangelicals and conservatives let people follow their own heart and stop sending emails, and prophetic words to persuade and promote a McCain/Palin ticket?

 

Herein is the same egotistical spirit of religion, which blinded the Pharisees and Sadducees from accepting Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah because He didn’t measure up to their standards, or meet their expectations.  He didn’t appeal their class.  He didn’t agree with them.  He certainly didn’t speak their language because His message of truth exposed their lies, hatred, hypocrisy, rebellion, and piousness.

 

It is a mockery to say you’re defending the faith and teaching the Bible by breaking the law.  The Bible is clear in Romans 13:1-2, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.  The authorities that exist have been established by God.  Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”  So, now Pastor Jody Hice, since you take the Bible literally how do you and your fellow clergymen, and the Allied Defense Fund justify breaking a federal regulations based on this above Scripture?

 

Don’t tell me race isn’t an issue in the presidential election!  But one thing I do know, no one can fight against God and win!  Whether Obama or McCain, the truth is I trust that truth and good will always win over lies and evil.  This is the hope in which I hold to and with this hope I have inner peace.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

God is on our side! April 13, 2008

Oh, how I love the word of God.  I have put my hope in God’s word; therefore, it is my comfort in sorrow.  It is my strength in weakness.  It is my light in darkness. It is my song of victory!

 

Do you recall how it made you feel when you knew someone was on your side?  The modern term now is “got your back.”  There’s a sense of boldness, defiance, and confidence that escalate when you know someone’s got your back, and you don’t have to face the enemy alone. 

 

I recall my school days when occasionally I’d get into an altercation with a peer.  I’m proud to say it was not a way of life for me.  Nevertheless, it was the seldom occasion that being an only child was a disadvantage.  However, I did have an ally that I could depend on.  I knew my cousin, Joe, was on my side.  He was sure to come to my rescue, and could throw a few good punches in my defense.

 

Usually after-school showdowns were planned in advance.  Advance planning allowed for a build up of assurance and confidence as well. It helped you to prepare mentally.  Although this was many years ago, I still recall the positive affect that having support had on me when facing a challenging encounter.

 

Consequently, when I read Psalm 124, I could relate to how the Israelites could prepare themselves mentally and emotionally for worship.  What an assurance to know that God Almighty is on your side.  This particular song was one that the Israelites sang on their way up to worship.

 

Going to worship (at your local assembly) should be an “up” experience.  An experience that raises your level of expectation, and motivates you to continue your faith walk by trusting the sovereign God of all flesh to come to your rescue, and defend you against the attacks of men and the raging storms of life.  When it appears external circumstances are working against you, just starting saying or singing, “If the Lord had not been on our side…” It reminds you of God’s goodness and His faithfulness to see you through the most difficult times in life.

 

If you prepare for worship mentally and emotionally, you won’t be disappointed.  You’ll declare with certainty, “Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. You won’t allow distractions to keep you from giving glory to the only true and living God.  

 

May your worship experience cause you to ascend to another realm of supernatural power in the Holy Spirit far above powers, principalities, and spiritual wickedness in high places.  Let me remind that you have been seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus; and have been given authority to overcome all the power of the enemy all because God is on our side.  Hallelujah!!

It’s not about that… March 23, 2008

I knew the bandages covering the cuts and bruises from an unjust fight in American history would soon fall off during this presidential campaign.  The racial scars and deep wounds of an unforgettable past will never heal as long as the high humidity of tension and overheated opinions of others keep rising.  The temperatures in race relations have been rising for some time.  However, the heat during this presidential campaign is a result of an inferno of instigators who spend their time fanning the flames of distraction in an attempt to destroy the hope of real change coming to America.  Regardless,  change is coming to America. 

The truth is, freedom of speech is protected under the first amendment and gives everyone the same rights—freedom of expression—right or wrong.  But it does not mean that everyone agrees with what is said, whether it’s your pastor or your parents.  And, if you disagree with what your parents say whether right, wrong, politically correct or not, they’re still your parents.  Moreover, if you have an ounce of sense, you wouldn’t disown them because of what they said.  Honestly, how can we be so illogical when it comes to politics?  It makes no sense to hold someone accountable for what someone else says just on the basis of association.  It makes about as much sense as holding your pet responsible for something your kid does. 

It’s appalling that we are so easily distracted from the real issue at hand—America is at a crossroad— believe it or not.  Change is coming; like it or not!  However, change is not coming because of the power of one man or one woman (black or white).  It’s coming through the power of prayer.  And the prayer is: “Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done in the Earth as it is in heaven.” 

It’s not about what Rev. Jeremiah Wright said years ago; it’s not about what Geraldine Ferraro said a week ago; it’s not about Senator Barack Obama’s association with Rev. Wright, or Senator Hillary Clinton’s association with Ms. Ferraro. 
 This presidential election is really not about a black man, a white woman, nor an old white man.  It’s  about America being one nation under one God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.  It’s about the American people making a decision about the future of this nation, and voting for the candidate they believe can lead this nation back to God, bring back the honor and respect we once had in the United Nations, and care about all classes of the American people. 

We cannot continue the masquerade— living by shady operations of an old “black and white” system rooted in a gloomy past, but saying we’re expecting a bright and hopeful future filled with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people.  We should be tired of leaders and role models setting poor examples—saying one thing, but doing something totally different, and then making excuses for bad decisions, and poor judgment, but not suffering the consequences of their sadistic behavior like everyone else. 

It’s time we faced the real issue—all of us, regardless of the color of our skin, we have become an embarrassment to the world, and we continue with petty ploys that downplay the reality of our failure to live up to the real meaning of democracy. 

If everyone would seriously ponder the economic crisis we’re in, the atmospheric changes we’re experiencing around the globe, and the high level of immoral exposure we’re hearing about and seeing, the question should be: are there unseen or unknown reasons for these things happening at this particular time in America?   

If you expect an answer you’ll get one.  The answer could change your perspective as to why we sing, “God Bless America” and why “In God We Trust” is on our currency. 

The Voice of the Lord: In Honor of Dr. King January 16, 2008

On January 15, 1929, a baby boy was born to Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta Williams King and given the name, Martin Luther King, Jr.

The timeliness of his arrival was in proportion with his mission and purpose predestined by God.  Therefore, his growth and development into manhood, and his advanced matriculation in education were necessary to meet the urgency of mankind’s need to hear what God had to say and do for generations to come.

To the unenlightened Dr. King was just an intelligent man with great oratorical skills and a public platform.  Many honor him only for his fight against segregation and inequity in the Deep South.  For many, observance of the holiday simply means recognizing a great civil rights leader.  Yet, for some,  he was a voice that condemned the ugliness of racism smeared in the faces nonwhites and Jews. 

To others he was the voice of greatness— an icon to the rise of “black power.” To the degenerates, he was a dangerous threat to the kingdom of darkness that must be annihilated.

However, I know for me; he was ‘the voice of the Lord’ then, and now!

I was only sixteen years old when the news of his brutal assassination was announced at the small segregated school I attended in Louisiana.  To this day, I recall the emotional upheaval this news brought throughout the school as well our small community of underprivileged coloreds. 

In particular, I remember my own emotional outbursts.  It was a ‘gut-wrenching’ queasiness I’d never felt before.  Perhaps, like that of receiving the news of my father’s death.

I believe the prophetic anointing within me (not yet recognized or released) grieved for a true prophetic voice silenced by a nation rebelling against God’s will for humanity; addicted to hatred and committing heinous acts of violence against its fellowman.  I didn’t know then, but I know now that the spirit of heaviness overshadowed me because the resounding affects of an audible voice inspired by the Holy Spirit would be silent forever.  This man was the voice of the Lord!

I’ve read the history of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. several times.  But this year, it became clear to me that this man was born for such a time, even as this. 

His messages still echoes throughout the portals of time, and reminds us of the need for change—change that results in spiritually transformed hearts and minds—changed lives that conform to the standards of GOD ALMIGHTY, and attitudes that align with biblical principles.

 Everything that he stood for was in alignment with the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.

Dr. King’s messages were focused on man’s greatest needs.   And 40 years later, the needs are still great— justice, equality, and peace. 

God created all men equal, in His image and His likeness. Yes, we’ve come a long way, but we still have a ways to go until we all come into the knowledge of God’s will concerning justice and equality for all men.  There are still too many subliminal messages, innuendos, jokes and jesters, which reveal the secrets of an evil heart. Therefore, above all, man’s greatest need is a new heart.

Dr. King preached peace and nonviolence.  This message is relevant today because man longs for true love and spiritual peace. Wherever there is war and violence there can be no true love.  God is love! 

Therefore, there’s an even greater need today—a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  He preached peace because Christ paid the ultimate price for our peace—peace with God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.  When men are not at peace with God, there can be no peace with his fellowman. 

Consequently, wars, crimes and violence are inevitable in a depraved society.   But, there is hope because with God all things are possible.

In a message on Peace, in 1964, Dr. King said, “Sooner or later all the people of the world will have to discover a way to live together in peace and thereby transform this pending cosmic elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.  This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant.”

Dr. King understood that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Because Christ is our hope, he declared boldly and with tenacity, “Let freedom ring.”  He understood that freedom is the reward of knowing Truth.  Dr. King knew that when America embraces the Truth, we would be free at last.

He was confident in his mission and sincere in his message.  He was not intimidated by men to conform to their systems of injustice, ungodly beliefs, and immoral values.  He stood courageously in the face of opposition to deflect the darts of unrighteousness that penetrated the concrete walls of pride, hatred and selfishness. 

On nonconformity, in 1963, he said, “This hour in history needs a dedicated circle of transformed nonconformists.  Dangerous passions of pride, hatred and selfishness are enthroned in our lives; truth lies prostrate on the rugged hills of nameless Calvaries.  The saving of our world from pending doom will come, not through the complacent adjustment of the conforming majority, but through the creative maladjustment of  a nonconforming minority.”

Ultimately, Dr. King’s mountaintop experience afforded him a privilege few will have in their lifetime—to see the Promised Land.  Seeing the Promised Land gave him the assurance, confidence and hope that we all must live by daily—that God’s kingdom will come, and His will shall be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

On April 3, 1968, Dr. King said, “Well, I don’t know what will happen now.  We’ve got some difficult days ahead.  But it doesn’t matter with me now because I’ve been to the mountaintop.  And I don’t mind.  Like anybody, I would like to live a long life.  Longevity has its place.  But I’m not concerned about that now.  I just want to do God’s will.  And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain.  And I’ve looked over.  And I’ve seen the Promised Land.  I may not get there with you.  But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the Promised Land.  And I’m happy, tonight.  I’m not worried about anything.  I’m not fearing any man.  Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

I believe this spiritual encounter enabled Dr. King to release everything and everyone into the Master’s hand—his life, his family, his work, his country, and this world.  He had answered the call of God.  He had done the will of God. He had lifted up his voice like trumpet in Zion, and sacrificed all for the Master.  He had fought a good fight and finished his course.

He had presented his body as a living sacrifice time after time.  He was pressed on every side, and oftentimes felt forsaken; yet,   he didn’t conform to this world. Instead, he was transformed by the renewing of his mind.  He understood the good and acceptable and perfect will of God; therefore, he proclaimed it to the world without compromise.

Today, the greatest honor we can bestow upon this noble man of God would be to surrender our lives to the will of God as he did; yield our members as instruments of righteousness for the Master’s use as he did—denying all for the Kingdom of God.

I ask, “Lord, will there be another voice that will take up the cause for peace, righteousness and justice in the Kingdom? 

Who will be the voice of the Lord?  Let it not be the voice of one man alone, but many that will be heard as one voice. 

 I pray, Let the Church be the voice of the Lord.  Though we are many members, let us declare in unison as one Body, “I am the voice of the Lord.”

My life in the rear October 21, 2007

A former coworker lost her mother recently and several of us attended the funeral.  I have attended numerous funerals in my “short” lifetime, but this was the first time I’ve attended one where the coffin was placed at the back of the church throughout the service The minister’s explanation gave symbolic meaning to the belief that the spirit of my friend’s mother was in heaven, and that she’d never sat at the front in church during her lifetime, so why place her there now that she’s deceased.  Okay. I can agree with that.

However, the most striking part of this for me was the courage to end a funeral tradition that’s been a part the black community as long as I can remember.  In most religions it’s customary to display the beautiful casket that holds the embalmed body of our family, friends, and loved ones at front center where the bereaved family can stare at it throughout the service.  I admit it was little odd, yet somewhat of a relief.  Actually, this could be the start a new thing.  As a matter of fact, I’m considering adding it to my list of pre-needs plans in addition to my “no two-minute expressions allowed.” 

I walked away with my own symbolic perception.  By placing my coffin in back of the church it would communicate that my earthly life is behind; I’d lived it out front for all to see, and those attending my funeral should look forward to their future hope by living a committed and purposeful life of faith in Jesus Christ as I did. This is the ultimate legacy I want to leave.     

Fading flowers, withering grass September 10, 2007

I attended a funeral (also called “a celebration of life”) on Saturday.  My sister in Christ had just celebrated a birthday on July 24; and now family and friends were gathered to celebrate her short-lived life that ended unexpectedly due to an aneurysm.

Several friends and family members shared their expressions of love and heartfelt sympathy.  Although their expressions centered around their relationship with Sharon, they all concluded one thing: Sharon enjoyed life because she understood it was a gift from God.  She loved people. Her smile revealed her inner peace and happiness.  Her excitement about life touched the heart of others and changed their perspectives. 

As I drove home, my thoughts about the frailty of life caused me to search within my soul to seek solace in the only thing that gives me hope– the Word of God.

I Peter 1:24 states, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of the Lord stands forever.

 The truth for me is this: Each breath I take comes with no guarantee that I will take another one; therefore I choose to live a lifestyle that keeps my hope of everlasting life alive.

Perhaps, for those who live life to the fullest with gratefulness and praise to God for every moment are the ones who are better prepared to let go so quickly.
